[...] I am always happy to hear about people who use their powers for good. Cal Newport over yonder at Study Hacks is in that category, and has worked to bring to our attention the existence of Chris Guillebeau, also in the powers-for-good category.
Cal,

Thank you for posting about Chris, thereby bringing him to my attention. It makes me feel better about humanity when I see proof of solid people doing good things and thinking different thoughts.

As I was pursuing this, I began to meet people unlike any I’ve met before. They then invited me to things unlike things I’ve ever been to before. That then led to some interesting new ideas and money making possibilities that may have crossed my mind but never thought I would ever actually seriously consider before.

It's amazing the powerful influence of meeting new people. I think we set a lot of our internal boundaries on what's possible and what's not based on the attitude of our friends. So the process of going out and finding people doing more interesting, bolder things, can really make an impact. I even wrote a chapter about this in my first book, How to Win at College. It was titled "Inflate Your Ambitions," and said, in essence, find people doing amazing things with your interests then go meet them for coffee. You'll never be the same.

Okay, so I have been trying to become the kind of student you put here.

I decided to create a hip hop dance crew on my school campus since I like dancing.

I am SO glad I did not take the student job at the library...

@Cal, thank you again for the chance to chat about unconventional college life. Your site looks great and I look forward to hearing of other students finding their own way in the midst of the conforming landscape of academia.

@Daisy-- thanks as well for your thoughts.

Interesting thoughts. :D

I'll probably be mulling over that the next few days.
