  1. Congratulations Cal.

What is your longer term plan to manage internet and social media usage with your sons as they get old enough to go to school and interact with other kids who are all “smartphone zombies” by default? How will you deal with the “Dad, when can I get a phone?” or “Dad when can I get a Facebook account?”

  3. Congratulations on your latest “research station” – that’s how I call my kids.
    I learn a lot of from them – 3 (2 girls and a boy).
Wishing you and the family all the best in juggling of your professional work and “research stations”.

  4. Congrats! As a working mom of 2, I actually would like to hear how you approach your parenting responsibilities as part of your overall approach to work, productivity and success. Did you find that as a parent you had to cut down or make drastic changes? Does your wife ever complain about your work commitments and multiple side projects?

    • Brian,

It would be safe to assume that Cal is by now a cut-throat competent veteran when it comes to time management. We’ve all seen no drop in his content quality, output and productivity despite two older growing kids.

      Boggles my mind. Congrats, Cal!

Your work has been an inspiration to me. I always thought I had to choose between becoming good at my work and being a good father, until I discovered your books.

I am really keen to find what your deep work tips and general suggestions would be for a primary caregiver of little kids? If you wouldn’t mind sharing your family’s responsibility sharing systems that would be very helpful indeed!

  15. Congratulations, Cal! I have a six weeks old baby (boy) myself. I’m resigning from my full-time college counselor position at the end of this semester to be a full-time dad (will continue to work as an adjunct counselor). My primary focus now is raising our very first.

  17. Hi Cal,

I am a fan of your Deep Work book and was wondering if you happen to have a blog post somewhere on maintaining productivity and deep work habits as a new parent, particularly during parental leave?

I have just been informed that my contract is not being renewed and I need not come back to my current role after maternity leave – that gives me just 4 months to find a new role in a challenging field (management consulting) and in a new country (having recently relocated) while caring for a newborn with no family nearby, so I will need serious discipline and all the tips I can get.
